Seiser Alp and Schlern mountain
Seiser Alp is the largest alpine pasture in South Tyrol,
situated amidst one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the world, the South Tyrol Dolomites.
The mighty Schlern mountain raising high above the Seiser alp is a landmark and the symbol of South Tyrol.
In spring and summer you will be enchanted by wonderful seas of alpine flowers against the grandeur
of the mountain backdrop of The Seiser Alp, the center of the Schlern area,
overlooking the communities of Kastelruth, Seis am Schlern, Tiers und Völs down below.
The impressive scenery of the Schlern mountain range, the rosegarden, Langkofel and Plattkofel
are just a few of the highlights you will find in the nature reserve called Schlern-Rosengarten.
The unique mountain range of Langkofels und Plattkofels stretches out right next to it,
with the Marmolada range right behind it. The Geisler mountains are situated to the right of the nature reserve.
The Seiser Alp with its 57 m2 ranks as the highest alpine pasture in South Tyrol
and reaches from 1660 up to 2360 meters into the skies above.
A modern cable railway covering a distance of about 4300 m will take you to the mountain station Compatch
on the Seiser alp within merely 15 minutes, while you enjoy the breathtaking view from above.
Starting at Compatsch, you have the choice of several sophisticated hiking routes,
e.g to the Tierser Alpl, the "Schlernhäuser" or the Plattkofel lodge - to name just a few.
Or you might be heading there in winter knowing you will find perfect snow conditions there at all times.
Spending your vacation at our apartments in South Tyrol, right next to the Seiser Alp and the Schlern mountains
will guarantee a relaxing and interesting time imbedded in a unique nature and mountain scenery.
There are also several climbing routes which vary in their degree of difficulty:
The Maximilians route (starting at Tierser Alpl), Santerpass in the "Rosengarten"
and the Oskar-Schuster via ferrata in Lang- and Plattkofel are just a small selection of what the area has to offer.
The Seiser alp is also a very popular skiing resort. Quite a number of cable railways and ski lifts
dot the Seiser Alp Plateau, and more than 60 km of perfectly groomed ski slopes with various
degrees of difficulty make for an extraordinary skiing vacation.
It is also an attractive destination for cross-country skiers.
More than 60 km of perfectly groomed cross-country trails for skating and classic
cross-country skiing from easy to challenging with double or quadruple tracks wind through the landscape.
There are 2 different skiing areas - Dolomiti Superski covers a large part of the Seiser alp,
and comprises another 11 ski areas in adjacent provinces.
The slopes vary from suitable for families to more challenging ones, but one thing is permanent:
the snow magic from the beginning of December all the way through to the end of April.
Enjoy this white winter wonderland on the Seiser Alp surrounded by the bizarre mountain ranges of South Tyrol.

with their breathtaking scenery rising right at your doorstep.
The tourism centers of Seis am Schlern and Kastelruth are a mere 5 kms away,
offering picturesque alleys and sights as well as an attractive range of shops and restaurants.
Apart from traditional South Tyrolean dishes and delicious Italian cooking,
many of the restaurants and eateries also offer German specialities.
The great number of boutiques, supermarkets, wood carvers, bakeries and butchers
leave nothing to be desired when it comes to shopping. If you are looking for hiking
and sports equipment, hiking boots or sports outfits, for example, but also if you
fancy traditional garbs, it´s a good idea to check out the outdoor shop Silbernagel in Seis.
Excursions to places such as Tiers and Völs, St.Ulrich, St. Christina, Prösels castle,
the ruins of Hauenstein, St. Oswald, Klausen, Bozen, the castle of Trostburg or the Völser pond
are just some of the sights waiting to be discovered in the surrounding areas.
Kastelruth and Seis are especially famous as a musical pilgrimage site for fans of the
band Kastelruther Spatzen. For years the "Spatzenfest", the band´s yearly open air event,
has drawn large crowds of fans to Kastelruth and Seis. The fanshop in Kastelruth will complement
the trip with interesting memorabilia and musical souvenirs to take along for friends and families at home.
But they are not the only well-known group of musicians in the area.
The "Kastelruther Männerquartett", also dubbed "Kastelruther Mannerviergesang" - the
four singing men from Kastelruth also enjoy considerable popularity. And one of the singers
just happens to be no other than the very owner of this farmstead Ratzeshof: Ewald Mahlknecht.
Along with Robert Sattler from Kastelruth, Josef Gruber and Stefan Kaser, he is part of a powerful
choir you shouldn´t miss to hear! Maybe you will have a chance to enjoy one of the well-attended
concerts while you are in the area.
From the culinary point of view, the South Tyrolean cooking is sure to delight you with
its traditional dishes and exquisite wines. At the huts on the Seiser alp and the surrounding
moutains Schlern, Rosengarten, Sella Stock, Langkofel and Plattkofel you can treat yourself to
some of the famous South Tyrolean specialities.
But also lovers of the Italian cuisine will have a hard choice among a wide selection of
pizza and pasta on the menus of the mountain huts as well as of the restaurants and eateries in Seis,
Kastelruth, Völs, Tiers, St. Ulrich and all other surrounding places.
The Southern side of the alps, especially South Tyrol, also sports the mildest and sunniest
climate of the entire region. There are an average of 300 days of sunshine a year,
and also the average temperatures are remarkably higher and more stable than in other
regions on the Northern side of the alps.
Comfortable holiday apartments, neatly-kept inns, guesthouses, farms and hotels are all
waiting to make your vacation a special experience.
Fascinating mountains, lovely people and hospitality - welcome to the South
Tyrolean holiday appartments Ratzeshof on the Seiser Alp.
